Welcome

On May 28th, Kim Marshall, visited Mrs. Tracy Eddy's 2nd grade class at Elderton Elementary School with workshop clients, Janet Steele, and Leanne Holmes. The purpose of the visit was to read "The Stinky Cheese Man, and Other Fairly Stupid Tales" by JonScieszka, and Lane Smith. After the story, the students got to decorate their very own "Stinky Cheese Man" using cheese, pickles, raisins, etc... After the story and snack, students were given a juggling lesson and demonstration. (Photo courtesy of Nathan Lasher)

Our Philosophy

We believe that every person with a disability, whether physical or mental, deserves to experience the dignity and self-respect that comes with being a productive individual. Many people with disabilities need only the opportunity and the training in order to be placed into competitive employment.

Since each person brings to our facility his or her own strengths and personal characteristics, individual training goals must be designed. These goals are nor curative; instead they provide skills which facilitate the lifelong development process. Our approach is to help each person build a more positive image, interpersonal confidence, and a sense of usefulness in society.

Our History

The Progressive Workshop of Armstrong County, Inc. was formed in 1968 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to provide vocational rehabilitation services to people with disabilities. Various civic groups raised the money needed for the first year of operation. Currently, funding is obtained through the Office of Mental Health and Mental Retardation of Armstrong and Indiana Counties and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.

At the present time, the Progressive Workshop provides vocational training at three sites.
